Note: Most Wikipedia sites provide fast and accurate basic
information; they can be accessed easily under the specific railroad name (e.g.:
Boston & Maine RR, Maine Central RR, etc.). While not "scholarly"
sources, they typically provide useful
links and additional references.

Library of Congress A
site with an enormous collection of historical maps, including
birds-eye-view maps that show plainly the exact location of older railroad
stations in many American cities and towns and even provide sketch views of
the depots themselves.
- The Massachusetts
Bay Railroad Enthusiasts, Inc. The Mass Bay Railroad Enthusiasts group has its
own web page. Click here for information on the Society's services, publications,
calendar, dues schedule, etc. (which often involve NH railroading).
- The Walker
Transportation Collection Richard Symmes,
curator. The Walker Transportation Collection of the Beverly (MA) Historical Society and
Museum houses an enormous collection of Railroad related materials, particularly
photographs. The museum is located at 117 Cabot St., Beverly MA, 01915 [(978) 922-1186,
and is open to the public on Wednesday, 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

devoted to the archaeology of abandoned branches of the B&M Railroad in Southern New
Hampshire and Northeastern Massachusetts. Scott is one of the chief contributors to the NH
and the MA stations sites.
- The Flying
Yankee By The Flying Yankee Restoration Group. A website devoted to
the history and restoration of one of the great trains of the New England past.
- Ossipee-area
Stations By Ossipee History and Folklore Site. This community's
website includes a page devoted to photos of railroad stations in the general Ossipee
area.
- Trainman's
Nashua City Station Page By Matt Cosgro. A site containing
a great many postcard
views and information on railroading in Nashua, NH and elsewhere, along with
very useful station-site locations..
- The Station at Sandown, NH By the Sandown Historical
Society. A nice website on a beautiful small-town New Hampshire railroad station.
- The Durham Station By the University of New Hampshire. A small
one-page site on the history of the station at Durham, now part of the University of New
Hampshire.
- The Crawford Notch Depot By Brian Hebert. A report (with
photos) on the project to refurbish the Crawford Notch station site.
- NERAIL: The New
England Rail Mailing List By Gil Emery. A site that deals with every
aspect of railroading in New England; be sure to visit the photo archive maintained by Jeff Morris, which
features hundreds of photos of all kinds of railroads contributed by a variety of
railfans.
- Grand Trunk
Railway in New England By Tim Sullivan. A website devoted to the
very interesting railroad that has crossed northern NH in a variety of guises for many
years.
- Lakeshore Railroad By "McDude." An extensive posting (on a discussion
thread) devoted to the quaint and scenic railroad that ran along Lake Winnipesaukee from
Alton to Lakeport.

Society Home page of the Amherst Railway Society, a very active
organization and an especially useful source of information on all aspects of railroading
in New England.
- The Troy
Cheshire Railroad Depot by the Troy Cheshire Railroad Commission.
An attractive and informative website about the restored Troy, NH, depot and about
railroading in the area. The site features a nice collection of images of the Troy depot,
past and present.

an excellent place to start if you're looking for types of extant railroad structures in
the six New England states.
