I am always interested in buying Civil War items, whether individual pieces or groups of material, family heirlooms or collections.

I am particularly interested in the following:

In short, just about anything issued to a Civil War soldier, carried by him, or brought back as a souvenir from the war. I also actively buy early US flags, usually of 36 stars or less, and daguerreotypes of unusual subjects.

Ordering: For the time being the best way to order an item or check on availability of an item is to call me at (607) 273-0271 or email me at I am frequently away on weekends at shows or sales. Answering machines and even email can malfunction, so if you do not hear from me within a reasonable time, try me again. Terms: Cash, good check, or money order. Merchandise will be held until checks clear. I am unable to offer layaway terms at this time. Sales tax: New York state residents must add 8% sales tax or supply a resale certificate.

Shipping and insurance: I send items by USPS or UPS. The buyer is responsible for paying shipping and insurance costs. Items over $200 must be insured. The buyer assumes responsibility for items shipped uninsured. Items ordered without payment of shipping costs will be held until the proper amount is recieived or the sale may be voided and the payment returned.

Guarantees: For mail order sales there is a three day inspection period during which an item may be returned for any reason. After that, I consider the item sold. All items, however, are guaranteed forever to be authentic. If within three days of recieving an item you wish to return it, please notify me you are sending it back. Items returned must be in the same condition as sent, absolutely no alterations, improvements, etc. Buyer is responsible for postage and insurance both ways.

Buying: I am always interested in buying good quality material and can pay competitive prices. I prefer that you know what you want for something when you contact me. I will make offers if necessary, but do not consider any offer by me, or anyone else, an appraisal. I will usually pay 60-70% of the price for which I think I can reasonably sell an item or group. This compares favorably even with the largest big-city auction houses, who charge fees to consignors and to bidders that add up to 30% or more, require weeks or months of cataloguing, and usually take thirty days or more to pay when and if an item sells. If the case merits it, I will supply references.

Services: I offer written appraisals of items I feel competent to judge for $125 an hour. I have done so for estate and trial purposes. I sometimes act as buyers agent, supplying condition reports and executing bids for a 10% fee on top of sale price, premiums, shipping costs, etc.

I set up regularly at the Forks of the Delaware Historical Weapons Collectors shows in Allentown, PA, the antique gun shows at Pottstown, Baltimore, and Hartford, and the Civil War shows in Chantilly and Richmond, VA, Mansfield, OH, and Nashville. I will update my schedule here from time to time.
