The George Junior Republic Union Free School District provides educational services for the children residing at the William George Agency For Children’s Services and for CSE referred day school students who live in local communities.  Course offerings include mathematics, social studies, English (language arts/reading), science, physical education, health education, art, music, technology and vocational studies.  The curriculum follows New York State Learning Standards and credits earned are transferable, and will be accepted by any school district in New York State.  Advanced Regents, Regents, Local and I.E.P. diplomas are awarded to students meeting appropriate graduation requirements.  We also have an approved Alternative High School Equivalency Program that allows eligible students a thorough GED preparation.

District classrooms are structured in 6:1:1 ratios (6 students: 1 teacher: 1 teacher aide).  The structure of this setting allows for highly individualized instruction, enabling students to recover lost academic standing.  An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed for each student in the interest of helping the student be successful in the school environment.  In addition to the individual attention from dually certified teachers (special education and secondary education), students benefit from experiential/hands-on learning, differentiated instruction, and the use of technology such as computer stations, laptops, interactive whiteboards, and classroom sound systems.

The District runs an extended school year by providing a six week summer session.  Summer school allows students extra time to complete course work and/or an opportunity to achieve additional credits towards graduation.  The business education curriculum includes a food service co-educational sequence in which students gain experience and expertise managing a small campus restaurant open to the public.  Students also make use of an art studio with ceramic and photography facilities, a woodworking shop, multiple computer labs and a fitness center.  Students also have the opportunity to compete in interscholastic sports and a variety of other co-curricular activities.  Guidance is provided for academic placement and for transitioning back to a student’s home school.  Students who graduate during placement also receive assistance in making preparations for a career and/or further education.
